An emphasis in Film/Video allows students to explore experimental approaches to time-based media in the broader context of contemporary art. Courses develop technical skills in shooting and editing while also exposing students to a wide range of strategies used by contemporary filmmakers and video artists. Students also draw on the long histories of avant-garde film and video art as further inspiration for their own creative work.
Film/Video students also benefit from the world-class offerings at the Wexner Center for the Arts and the Gateway Film Center, both a short walk from Hopkins Hall, including regular screenings and filmmaker visits integrated into our curriculum.
In addition to faculty and facilities in the Department of Art, students also benefit from their proximity to the Moving-Image Production major in Theatre, Film, and Media Arts as well as course offerings in experimental film and video art in the Department of the History of Art.
